Renewed my Drivers License today…

I'm driving here!
I was looking at my License the other day when filling out one of my VISA applications, and I noticed that it expires this year. Damnit, another thing to take care of before I leave. So I went online to the DMVs website and was hoping that I could renew it as easy 1-2-3 online. Well, they do have a renewal form for online, but you need a code in order to do that which is sent in the mail. Well, since I am renewing mine three months early, I haven’t gotten the mail yet so I don’t have a renewal pen number.
I end up driving to the local DMV station and waited about 10 minutes in line to get my number. I get the number, sit down and begin to fill out the paperwork for the license renewal. Handicapped Drivers aren’t so ‘Handicapped’

Not so handicapped after all
I remember my first encounter with a Handicapped driver… and it wasn’t even on the road, nor could I drive yet. I was attending Paso Robles High School, it was probably my Freshman or Sophomore year. All I remember from this brief encounter, is that I was walking around a corner in the quad area and right as I got 1/4 of the way around the pillar I heard this humming sound, one that sounds like a small powered engine, and as I stepped around, WHOOOOSH! This dude in one of those motorized wheelchairs go’s zipping by and in the process, running over my left toes. As the sound of the little engine whines further away I also hear the familiar sound of laughter. Damn it! I just got ran over by a wheelchair!
That was my first encounter with a handicapped driver and it was an early one at that. The rest of my encounters happen on the road, parking lots, streets, etc… And they aren’t really encounters as they are more along the lines of observances. (continue reading…)
